Common brake questions
Yes we can. Most car brake repairs are simple jobs that can easily be done onsite. Blue Toro is manufacturer approved for all brake repairs. And with more 5-star Google reviews than any other mechanic in Australia, it’s no wonder more car owners are converting to Australia’s most trusted and convenient dealership alternative.
Front brakes should be changed every 40,000km or 2 years. Rear brakes every 60,000km or 3 years. Whichever comes first. Your driving style will also impact how long your brakes last for. A city driver will use their brakes much more than drivers that use the freeway with little traffic. Breaking at lower speeds doesn't affect your brake pads as much as heavy braking at higher speeds.
Through the spokes of your wheel you should be able to see the brake pad for yourself. If it’s less than a quarter inch or half a centimetre than it’s time to get them replaced.
If you hear a grinding some coming from your wheels it’s time to replace your brakes urgently as your car is not only unsafe, you’re also damaging the rotors, resulting in a more costly repair.
Frequent heavy braking and city driving will place more wear and tear on your brakes. Conversely keeping a safe driving distance and being softer on the brake pedal coupled with more long distance trips will extend the life of your brakes.
Brake rotors are a disposable item that should be replaced every 2-3 brake pad changes. Worn brake rotors will impact the effectiveness of new brake pads and hence impact your cars braking ability. Your Blue Toro mechanic will check the rotors at each brake pad change.
