Common CLUTCH REPLACEMENTS questions
Yes we can. Most clutch repairs can easily be done onsite. Depending on the type of vehicle and the environment where the car is held, most clutch replacements are carried out by an approved specialist repairer while overseen by one of our technicians. One-stop mobile convenience.
A clutch on a manual car should be replaced every 80,000-120,000km or 4-6 years (whichever comes first). Replacement largely depends on your driving style. Adverse conditions such as constant heavy traffic and ‘riding’ the clutch will decrease the life of a clutch.
The cost will depend on the make and age of your vehicle. You can expect a clutch replacement to start from around $600. While clutch replacements are only applicable on manual cars, automatic transmissions have more moving parts and are just as susceptible to faulty parts over time.
The first signs of a failing clutch are the gears. If it becomes harder to put your car into reverse, or any other gear, then this could mean your clutch needs repairs. Other signs include your clutch pedal making noise, your transmission making a strange sound when your car is in neutral, or you hear a grinding noise when you shift gears.
Driving your car with a faulty clutch will likely cause further issues to your cars gearbox, the shifter, transmission or your starter motor. The longer you drive your car the more damage you’ll cause and the more costly the repairs. You should book your car in with your mechanic as soon as possible.
If your mechanic diagnoses a slipping clutch it means that the clutch is disengaging and not delivering enough power to accelerate your car. The easiest way to tell if a clutch is slipping is a burning smell during rapid acceleration and abrupt braking or hearing the engine rev more than normal. If this is the case your clutch will need to be replaced. Your Blue Toro mechanic is qualified to assess this for you.
