Common CAR RADIATOR questions
Yes we can. Most radiator repairs and replacements are simple jobs that can easily be done onsite. Blue Toro is manufacturer approved for all radiator repairs. And with more 5-star Google reviews than any other mechanic in Australia, it’s no wonder more car owners are converting to Australia’s most trusted and convenient dealership alternative.
Plastic radiators in modern cars should last for 8-10 years. Metal radiators in older cars usually last for the lifetime of the car. Proper maintenance of the radiator, in particular coolant flushes in accordance with the manufacturers recommendation will help maximise the life of your radiator.
You should contact your mechanic to fix the leak as soon as possible. Driving with an ongoing leak will cause further damage (and hence further expense over time). If you’re driving you can top up your radiator with water in the meantime but this is a very SHORT term measure.
You may have visible leaking fluid on your garage floor, typically sticky and green, orange or pink in colour. Additionally coolants usually have a sweet smell. The other major sign is a dramatic rise in temperature on your temperature gauge. Both require immediate attention from your mechanic.
You can for a very short distance. The more you drive the more coolant and water will leak from your radiator and the more damage will be caused. Topping up your radiator with water is a short term measure to get from A-B or to your local mechanic, however you will need to see your mechanic ASAP to avoid further damage.
Your cars radiator is designed to keep your engine cool. A faulty or leaking radiator could lead to an overheated engine, and worse still a very expensive blown engine replacement. If your car displays the following symptoms see your mechanic immediately…
- A hotter than normal bonnet;
- The temperature gauge on the dashboard is on;
- Coolant leaking in your garage;
- Reduced engine power; or
- Thumping noises from the engine.
